RFID Technology Promotes Livestock Digital Management

According to statistics, in 2020, the number of dairy cows in China will be 5.73 million, and the number of dairy cattle pastures will be 24,200, mainly distributed in the southwest, northwest and northeast regions.

In recent years, incidents of “poisoned milk” have occurred frequently. Recently, a certain milk brand has added illegal additives, causing a wave of consumers to return products. The safety of dairy products has caused people to think deeply. Recently, the China Center for Animal Disease Control and Prevention held a meeting to summarize the construction of animal identification and animal product traceability systems. The conference pointed out that it is necessary to further strengthen the management of animal identification to ensure the collection and utilization of traceability information.

With the development of science and technology and the needs of production safety, RFID technology has gradually entered people’s field of vision, and at the same time, it has promoted the development of animal husbandry management in the direction of digitalization.

The application of RFID technology in animal husbandry is mainly through the combination of ear tags (electronic tags) implanted in livestock and data collectors with low-frequency RFID technology. The ear tags implanted in livestock record the information of each livestock breed, birth, vaccination, etc., and also have a positioning function. The low-frequency RFID data collector can read livestock information in a timely, fast, accurate, and batch manner, and quickly complete the collection work, so that the entire breeding process can be grasped in real time, and the quality and safety of livestock can be guaranteed.

Only relying on manual paper records, the breeding process cannot be controlled by one hand, intelligent management, and all the data of the breeding process can be clearly checked, so that consumers can follow traces and feel reliable and at ease.

Whether from the perspective of consumers or the perspective of animal husbandry managers, RFID technology improves management efficiency, visualizes the breeding process, and makes management more intelligent, which is also the future trend of animal husbandry development.
